Sinopsis

'English Bards and Scotch Reviewers' is a satirical poem by Lord Byron, published in 1809. This work is a biting critique of contemporary poets and literary critics of Byron?s time. Penned in heroic couplets, the poem mimics the style of earlier satirists, particularly Alexander Pope, to deliver sharp and often humorous attacks on figures prominent in the literary scene. Byron?s targets include those associated with the Edinburgh Review (hence, the ?Scotch Reviewers?), as well as fellow poets he found lacking in talent or originality. This edition offers readers a glimpse into the literary feuds and aesthetic standards of the early 19th century through Byron?s characteristically witty and incisive verse. The poem remains relevant for its historical context and as an example of Byron?s early poetic style and critical perspective. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
