Sinopsis

Currently about 80% of the world?s chalcopyrite concentrates are processed by pyrometallurgical means (roasting, smelting and refining). This methodology generates dust and emissions of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and carbon dioxide (CO2) into the environment, causing problems in its control and processing to produce sulfuric acid. In addition, another disadvantage of pyrometallurgical processes is that they require a high investment and a capacity of over 100,000 t/year of copper. This study proposes the development of a new process for the direct leaching of chalcopyrite concentrates based on thermodynamic and metallurgical bases. The main objective is the generation of marketable products and environmentally stable residues.
